The ink on Lacy Dupras

Lacy Dupras from Arizona

Where did you grow up?
Phoenix, Az.

How was it growing up there, would you say that it influenced you?
I love Phx, I wouldn’t say it particularly influenced me in any direction, because there is so much diversity out here.

When did you start getting tattoos?
I got my first tattoo when I was 20, I always wanted them growing up, but my parents were super strict. I wasn’t even allowed to have my ears pierced twice.

How would you describe your style?
I wouldn’t say I have exactly one style…But as far as my daily casual dress its sweats and tank tops!

Do you consider tattoos as a serious art form?
Of course, tattoos are the art of our lives that we have decided to display to the world. For me, each tattoo has a meaning or representation of a time in my life or something I just find beautiful.

How do you see the tattoo culture right now?
The tattoo culture is definitely booming and broadening. A few years ago I took my husband’s 70 year old grandma to get her first tattoo.

What has been your inspiration for getting them?
Well, I have a whole sleeve dedicated to those I love most. My mom passed a few years ago, so she is the angels on my left arm, she died giving birth to triplets, so I have three sunflowers representing my three brothers! Others were inspired by other family members, or things that hold meaning to me.

What’s your favorite piece?
My favorite piece is my back piece, which I actually just started! It represents my husband and I and the struggles we have overcome, that we never gave up, and our love is eternal!

Do you catch people starring at you because of your ink?
Definitely, a lot people stare or even make comments. It’s actually fun, sometimes I like to cover up all my tattoos the first time I meet someone, and then the second time we meet it’s great to see their expressions change!! Some people truly treat you different just because you decorated your body!

In your opinion, do your tattoos change your mood often?
I wouldn’t say they change my mood, but they always remind me of a memory or a feeling!

What’s your most significant tattoo and why?
My left arm and back piece mean the most to me!! They both are for people I love more than anything in this world! Even though my back is still in the process, I love it. I plan on adding portraits of my three kids to my lower back, which will definitely make it the most meaningful tattoo!

What advice would you give to someone wanting to get their first tattoo?
Decide what you want, then wait a few months and make sure you still want it! Also, definitely do your research on artists! There are so many amazing artists out there now, and when you’re putting something on your body that is meaningful and will be with you for the rest of your life, you want it to be done right!!

Will you be getting anymore?
Ohhh yes!! Finishing my back, then will probably start on my feet! Who knows where it will go from there!!

What’s your biggest inspiration, what keeps you going?
My kids, everything I do is for them! They are the reason I continue on and work as hard as I do! I want them to have nothing but the best in life, and be happy!

What is one thing that life has taught you?
Life’s not always fair, but those who continue to work hard and to believe in themselves will always accomplish their goals!

Do you have a favorite quote?
Karma…what goes around, comes around!

Anything else you would like to add?
Yesss…I own the Timeless Ink Tour, which is a tattoo convention hitting Phx this July, 13-15!! I am super excited about this and would love for all the tattoo lovers of the world to come out and celebrate the beauty of tattoos with us!! www.timelessinktour.com
